This is an excellent sampler of Glass’ music. The selections are from a variety of compositions written over a period years for different combinations of musicians. This is a great place to start an exploration of Glass’ music and you will want to move on from the selections you like to the larger works from which they are excerpted. There are many hours of musical exploration here. Thank you Amazon.

I’ll put it right out here. I like Philip Glass – not everything he’s written, but a lot. I echo another reviewer here, I don’t like every piece on this download, but I like most of it. Yes, Glass is a minimalist and he doesn’t appeal to everyone, but his body of work is tremendous and this download would be a good introduction and most people will find something they like. It will give you enough of a taste that you might want to explore his body of work even more. In addition to his classical works he has done soundtracks like “The Truman Show” and collaborated with David Bowie to write the “Low Symphony” And it is free! Thank you Orange Mountain. I own many Glass cd’s and I probably will purchase more in the future. It is nice to have something free.

Philip Glass is one of my favorite living classical composers, along with Ligeti, Thomas Ades and John Adams, who my wife studied with at the S.F. Conservatory.
Anyway, watch Koyannisqatsi again if you haven’t lately… and no need for me to ramble on too much. The 5-star rating must be shared by AMAZON for being such a cool music seller. This is the best kind of enlightened self-interest! If only Porsche would do something like this.
(A. Garrison… if you’re within the sound of my voice, I’m listening to my new Mozart sampler as this all downloads… ain’t life great!?)
This is both an amazing collection of music and surprisingly accessible. I appreciate modern classical music, but I am no aficionado. After listening to this compilation, I felt like Glass has a lot to offer and you don’t have to study the minimalists to “get it.” What an amazing composer.

Thanks to ALL at Orange Mountain Music – Don Christensen, Kurt Munkacsi, Michael Riesman – And of course…Mr. Glass – The Master – himself. With all the new (& fantastic) recordings/releases/re-releases since the dawn of Orange Mountain Music, this little sampler is a great taste of what The GLASS ARCHIVE has to offer: (honestly, if I had my way – (by that I mean: ‘The Cash’) – I would just assume Download ALL of his stuff from iTunes, but since I don’t really have a job (LOL! not really though…) it’s nice to experience tidbits of the Buried Glass MasterPieces! For over a decade now I listened to Glass exclusively: I did have jobs before – And have purchased the Majority of his ‘Signature Pieces, i.e. Einstein, Akhnaten, Satyagraha, the QATSI’s, Glassworks, the Symph’s, & my favorite composition of his: the CIVIL warS: ACT V – The Rome Section!!! It has been fun downloading random tracks from the recent iTunes Glass Collection (when I find like a twenty dollar bill blowing across the sidewalk er sumthin’)& w/ this OMM Sampler, I must say I’m extremely grateful for the exposure & pleasure of experiencing further genius of the world’s best composer (& by WORLD I mean: past & present)*My current iPod Archive of Philip is: 2.91GB = 364 songs, for a total of 1.6 Days of mind-bending brillance. & I’d say on Average I listen to Phil’s stuff prob. 5hrs a day…so I can’t wait to further my collection with future recordings until his work dominates my 20Gig iPod!(looking forward to Galileo Galilei – his opera I had the pleasure of witnessing in Chicago many suns ago…amongst many other not-as-of-yet recorded or released compositions)& am ALWAYS pleasantly surprised when his compositions make it to hardcopy: the release of MoNstERs oF GRAce (after a single experience of the LIVE show in Minneapolis some ten years prior, I still had some of those songs in my head: “Dont. Go…Back, to Sleep…”)was one of the more exciting moments of my 2007! & the most recent ‘Toltec’ Symph…been waiting for that!)…& in the words of Stephen King in his expression & praise for Mr. Neil Gaiman…[Like Mr. Glass] “We are Lucky to Have him!” Thanks Phil! And thanks for continuing to give the world More & More & More Music! (and a special thanks to Kurt Munkacsi, Michael Riesman, & Dennis Russell Davies for assisting to its fruition!)
